About Me

Hi, welcome to my world! Here is a little about me.

First off I am Heena, or as some know me – multi juggler of life!

I love to try new things and have many ideas swimming in my mind at one time. Great for me but not so great for my bank account. My recent addiction has been to watch many embroidery videos with a thought of ‘I can do that!’. The next thing the parcel of materials will be sitting at my front door.

5 fun facts about me:

  1. A Muslim woman born in Britain who is proud to show and speak about her life, ancestry and community.
  2.  Have been married for over 10 years Mashallah and am a mother to two incredibly inspirational children.
  3. The founder of a small online business that has allowed me to work from home. Giving me that slight balance of life and work.
  4. Travelling is a big passion of mine.
  5. I love cats, architecture, photography, reading and drawing.

A little about my Writing:

I began my writing process whilst blogging after my daughter was born. This allowed me to record our journey as new parents and gave a platform for other parents.

This led me to work as a freelance writer for an online lifestyle magazine – Pinksky Magazine. Here I later became an Editor working with a small team of writers.

For the last few years I have been working on some passion projects alongside writing articles/mini essays. I also write poetry stemming from my heritage. Currently working of a couple of pieces that I would love to get published.

I am constantly looking for inspiration; be it through current events, the community I am part of, my own life or even through the many roles I play.

I have written a children’s book on pet loss that will be published soon once I have worked on the illustrations.

As well as working on Travel guides through an online website Thatch.co. I have previously published on sites like Amaliah.

A little about my Illustrating:

I picked up a pencil during the pandemic during weekly art sessions with my sisters. This was the first time since school that I drew imagery. I have always drawn patterns through the art of Mehndi [henna] but after a discouraging teacher in high school I stopped drawing any form of landscapes or objects.

These weekly art sessions opened up a part of me that I hadn’t used. Since then I have created my work from paper to digital using the procreate app on the Ipad. Discovering a talent I had untouched for years made me realise to not take discouragement seriously. If it is something I love to do then to keep at it. A piece of advise I now pass on to my children.

My big project on Illustration has to be for my children’s book on pet loss. Exploring various techniques have been interesting. However having an end goal of publishing my first children’s book is a great push to keep going.

A little about my love for Travelling:

As I have been a keen traveller since a young age, my childhood was split between Mombasa, Kenya and London, UK.

I have travelled as far east as Malaysia, stopping in places like Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Jordan to then closer to home locations of France, Italy and Scotland.

As a young family of four our favourite haunt is along Al-Andalus in Spain. However we are still finding new places to explore with our recent adventure as a family to Istanbul, Turkey.

I decided to work with an online website Thatch.co to create travel guides from my experiences so that others can also enjoy their adventures without all the fuss of researching.

You can view these guides through my Shop link as well as going directly to my profile.

I hope you stick around to see where the world takes me as I would love you join me on my journey.
